When it comes to his own Nebraska Republican Party, 2nd District Congressman Lee Terry can’t seem to control his friends or his foes.

It’s been 11 days since Terry asked the Nebraska GOP to stop a controversial campaign attack against Terry’s likely Democratic opponent, State Senator Tom White.

But the attack goes on.

Nebraska Republican Pary Chairman, Mark Fahleson

GOP State Chairman Mark Fahleson is still offering two tickets to the November 21, 2009 Nebraska-Kansas State football game to anyone who digs up the best dirt from White’s federal financial disclosure report. The GOP offered the Husker reward, “…for the most useful information…” after posting the report on the party’s Web site.

On September 18th Terry’s campaign manager, David Boomer, told Nebraska Watchdog that Terry believes Fahleson has every right to post the report because it is a public document. But according to Boomer, Terry told Fahleson, “…to leave it at that…the tickets should be dropped.”  But the bounty on White remains on the GOP Web site.

And there is another family feud involving Terry.

Fellow Republican Matt Sakalosky is challenging Terry in the 2010 Republican Primary. Terry is convinced he will beat Sakalosky but in an on camera interview with Nebraska Watchdog, Terry admits he’ll come out of the fight weaker than he went into it, “The only thing he (Sakalosky) is going to achieve by it is soften me up for Tom White.” Terry adds Sakalosky will make Terry spend some money he could have saved for the race against White. Terry adds, ”That doesn’t strengthen me.”

This is not the first time Terry’s political strength has been questioned. In 2008 a Capitol Hill newspaper, Roll Call, ranked Terry as one of the least powerful members of the House of Representatives.

According to “Roll Call“ Terry had a ”power ranking” of 321, 1 being the highest and 435 the lowest, putting Terry in the bottom 26%.
