Omaha Mayor: Recall Would Hurt City’s “Financials”

A warning from Omaha Mayor Jim Suttle: a move to throw him out of office would financially damage the City of Omaha.
During an on camera interview with Nebraska Watchdog, Suttle issued his most direct comments concerning a recall. Previously, when he was asked about the possibility of a recall, the Mayor stressed the need for “unity” in the city. But now Suttle tells Nebraska Watchdog if there is a recall the city’s, “…financials will just have to go begging, they’ll go to pot and I don’t think that’s sound.”
In an editorial on Tuesday the Omaha World Herald said a move to throw Suttle out of office, “…would be reckless.”
Nebraska Watchdog asked Suttle about several specific items related to a recall:
- The newspaper’s editorial.
- The 1987 recall of Omaha Mayor Mike Boyle. Suttle was Boyle’s Public Works Director.
- A recent poll by the Omaha Police Union that asked if Suttle should be recalled. The results have not been made public.

Of course he’s going to say that! He’d be ousted! He inherited the mess, yes, it’s true. BUT he sat on the CC for 4 years!! He can’t say he didn’t know that this was there! Get rid of him soon!!

How much is Side Step Suttle going to cost the taxpayers if we keep him? With his elevated wages that he is paying his friends, and with newly created, never needed before positions that he has implemented, those saving by themselves should pay for a recall.
Let’s look at the cost of these positions for 4 years. Would a recall be cheaper? I think so…and the city would be better off in the long run.
I have not heard Side Steps overpaid financial person come up with any new ideas other than what Suttle already said and was dead set on. Seems like a great waste of money for a puppet.

The main reason Suttle should be recalled? His claim that he knew nothing about the financial state of the city…he was a City Councilman for 4 years prior to being elected mayor by a very slim majority. What was he doing for 4 years? Wasn’t it his job to know what was going on in the city? He’s either lying or proving he’s very incompetent.

Suttle did not inherit the financial mess, he and his friend Fahey were the cause. He approved all the measures Fahey made to put off the Qwest Center bill, increased the pension mess, and got the new baseball park, all things that are costing the city now.
