Stenberg vs Bruning: It’s Getting Personal
Print This Article
With a little over three months until the May GOP Senate Primary, Republicans Jon Bruning and Don Stenberg are starting to sound a lot like Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney.
It’s getting personal, very personal, with Stenberg today firing back at Bruning as the two squabble over debates.
Stenberg has accused Bruning, who won’t be at a GOP debate in Kearney next month, of ducking debates.
Bruning says he’ll debate after the March 1st candidate filing deadline when the field is set.
Yesterday the Nebraska Radio Network reported that Bruning said, ”Don ought to go try to do his job as Treasurer a little bit.”
Today Stenberg fired back accusing Bruning of not issuing legal opinions when asked; failing to show up for any State Records Board meetings in over a year; and last but not least using the Attorney General’s office to pad his pocketbook.
“Put public service ahead of personal gain and sell your 24 businesses so that you can be a full-time attorney general,” Stenberg tells Bruning in a statement released by Stenberg’s campaign.

…and to think that one of these guys may be representing the State of Nebraska in the United States Senate.

Joe,
So, you approve of career politicians and not public servants, too, huh? I echo Jeff’s remarks, “and to think that you want to represent the State of Nebraska in the United States Senate.” This is definitely not what our founding fathers had in mind.

It’s fun watching the supposed best that my Party can offer for the position eat each other like starving hyena pups in a litter. Dinosaur Don does have a point though concerning Bruning and his less than ethical use of the office. The only thing I have to say is that after the dust does settle in the Republican primary, is RUN BOB, RUN! Nebraska NEEDS a voice of sanity!

Watching from Lincoln: You and I will seldom agree; but as a registered Republican (more independent) I would have to say this is a ‘dud’ vs ‘dud’ when discussing Stenburg and Bruning.

Imagine the year 2036, when 88 year old Don Stenberg is noted on the blogs of Nebraska clashing with some poor sucker who has the bad luck to draw Don in his 17th attempt for US Senate. He’s been running (and losing) since 1978, who’s to think he can’t top Harold Stassen?

Don Stenberg was running for US Senate even when he was running for State Treasurer. Tony Fulton would have made a great State Treasurer, but Stenberg stole that position from him and is using it as a trampoline to US Senate. Meanwhile, the Treasurer’s office sits empty without anyone in charge because Stenberg is out on the campaign trail. Stenberg: Career politician trying to move up the political ladder.
