Don’t tell Patricia Heskett she just threw away some $10,000.

The woman who took out a full page attack ad in Sunday’s Omaha World Herald, an ad accusing Congressman Lee Terry (NE-R) of not being conservative enough, tells Nebraska Watchdog the ad is a ”win-win.”

Heskett, who says she’s a registered Republican and has backed Terry in the past, believes it’s time to “wake people up.” She’s asking voters in Tuesday’s GOP Primary to vote for Terry’s opponent, Matt Sakalosky.

Sakalosky’s long shot campaign doesn’t have any money but the Heskett ad and some last minute radio commercials from an anti-Terry group known as the “Grass Roots Patriots” have given Sakalosky some added publicity.

Terry’s campaign manager David Boomer tells Nebraska Watchdog, Terry’s forces have been busy targeting the few voters expected to cast ballots in the Primary. With voter turnout projections running right around 15% it appears that less than 30,000 registered Republicans in the 2nd Congressional District (Omaha, Bellevue, LaVista and Papillion) will make it to the polls. According to Boomer those 30,000 are the folks who always vote and he says, ”We’ve focused on them like a laser beam,” by sending out several direct mail pieces touting Terry’s re-election.

As for Patricia Heskett she tells Nebraska Watchdog that since the newspaper ad hit, her phone has been ringing off the hook and people are applauding her efforts.

While many political insiders are heavily discounting Sakalosky’s chances of winning Heskett insists she can’t lose. She says while the ad “cost a lot” she’s convinced that even if Terry wins he will have been sent a clear cut message, that government over-spending has got to stop and ”part-time conservatives” have got to go.
